A Compelling read; should be printed in USA!

Hardcover copy, slightly used, Reprint 2013 in India (?). According to the Forward: "In 1976 George H. Leonard published "Someone Else Is on the Moon"..." (Note; "It helps to keep an open mind when dealing with controversial material such as this.").

I found this book more than fascinating, given the limitations of NASA Space-based photography in the 70's. Mr. Leonard is one of the first to actually question the possibility that "Someone Else Is on the Moon", besides Mankind's limited forays to and from our nearest celestial orb.
We now find there are other researchers who have gone so far as to ask provocative questions such as "Who built the Moon" (Christopher Knight, Alan Butler); or much more mundane queries, as to why NASA so abruptly pulled the plug on the Apollo program, never to look back, much less go back? Were we given marching orders to never return because others (ET's, or advanced terrestrials from a breakaway civilization?) who had already laid claim to the Moon long ago, for whatever purpose or agenda (mining, watching us, both?).
- There are a lot of interesting theories out there, all I know is NASA has stayed pretty much uninterested for over four decades, and it leads one have to ponder what's really going on? (See: Dark Mission; The Secret History of NASA, by Richard C. Hoagland and Mike Bara for more details).
The best story I've heard (late-night talk radio) was - "The Others" (for lack of a better term) were parked on the ridge of the crater (Tranquility I think) looking on as Neil and Buzz did their historic moon-jaunt, then "The Others" gave them the (seemingly universal?) 'middle-finger' salute. Who can say if that's true or not? However it would appear we may have gotten the message.
- Bottom line; I think George Leonard was way ahead of the curve on this one, but only time (and disclosure) will tell...

Outstanding read

Waited a while for it as they would not deliver to the UK, though once received, I was unable to put it down. It is a shame that Nasa cannot stop lying about the moon and everything else it has found through your tax dollars! George Leonard used basic pencil and paper to describe what he sees in the un-air brushed pictures which Nasa released. He also talks candidly with some of their scientists, who openly state, there are structures on the moon and they are not ours. It is sometimes difficult to make some of the structures out, though you can easily find the originals on line. And a host more! Remember this book is over 35 years old. It is so much more believable than the dross you are told about the moon. Read it and make your own mind up. Check out "Moon Rising" (You Tube) and John Lear. It all ties up. I would thoroughly recommend it. It should be re-released.

Must have for your UFO collection.

Love this book and what he describes on the moon. It is not the original though so most of what he is discussing is just not visible in the pics. They aren't bad pics, but they are not the original hi res ones needed to see these anomalies. Still, pretty incredible.

Extraordinary guide for dedicated practice

This is the finest mahamudra book that I've read. Pithy, dialectical, with just enough detail to carry a practitioner to the next step.

But this is not an introductory text. It's meant as a guidebook for mahamudra teachers! As an example, the path to shamatha is rendered entirely in a few pages at the beginning. The guidance there, as elsewhere, is excellent. But it's so pithy that I can't imagine a person with no experience or guidance knowing how to follow the guidance.

Instead, readers may want to begin with a work like Balancing the Mind, a translation of one of Tsongkhapa's works on concentration meditation. Or with one of the many excellent books on the tonglen and the mind training.

The Complete Mahamudra Practice Manual

Clarifying the Natural State is the most complete practical guide to Mahamudra meditation I have ever seen.

Mahamudra, the "Great Symbol", is a synonym for the fundamental nature of your mind as it is, without the dualistic conceptual overlay we habitually project onto our experience of existence.

Mahamudra meditation relies solely on shamatha and vipashyana, calm abiding and insight. It is the highest and most profound form of meditation in Vajrayana Buddhism yet is absolutely simple. Its simplicity itself presents an obstacle for many of us because it is difficult to accept this as the ultimate form of meditation.

Dakpo Tashi Namgyal is one of the most revered meditation masters in the Kagyu Buddhist lineage. In this book, he takes you step by step through the meditation techniques, devoid of theory.

It is not a book to be read for intellectual edification, it is meant to be practiced. If you want to learn the theoretical basis of Mahamudra, read his book "Mahamudra, The Moonlight; Essence of Mind and Meditation".

You will note that the left hand page holds Tibetan text. If you are fortunate enough to find a Rinpoche who will give you the "lung", reading transmission, he can do so directly from your copy of the book. Don't be shy to ask.

Hersey Cartwright

Hersey Cartwright has worked in the technology industry since 1996 in many roles, from help desk support to IT management. He first started working with VMware technologies in 2006. He is currently a solutions architect for SimpliVity, where he designs, sells, and supports VMware vSphere enterprise environments running on the SimpliVity Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platform. He has experience of working with a wide variety of server and storage platforms. In 2012, he began preparing to submit a design to defend for his VMware Certified Design Expert. In February 2013, he successfully completed his defense and obtained VCDX. His VCDX number is #128. Since January 2011, he has been an instructor with the VMware IT Academy at Tidewater Community college where he teaches vSphere 5 and vSphere 6 classes. He designed and implemented the lab environment that is used by students in the virtualization and security programs offered at the Chesapeake Campus of Tidewater Community College. He enjoys teaching and learns a lot from teaching others about the benefits of virtualization. He actively participates in the VMware community, and he has been awarded the vExpert title every year since 2012. He has presented multiple ProfessionalVMware.com vBrownBags on vSphere administration, vSphere design, and vSphere disaster recovery. This book graciously keeps a good balance between datacenter design principles

Whether you are a seasoned architect who still is getting familiar with vSphere 6 or a hands-on engineer who likes to get a firmer grip on design and architecture using vSphere 6, Hersey’s updated datacenter cookbook just might be just the book you need.

This book graciously keeps a good balance between datacenter design principles, best practices and howto’s. In this book Hersey takes you by the hand and guides you through the steps needed to create a virtual datacenter design using vSphere 6.

Besides the necessary theoretical explanations Hersey offers his readers 75 recipes which they can use to help with the creation or optimization of a virtual datacenter design: What are the prerequisites you need for a design? Who do you have to talk to? What are goals, requirements, risks and assumptions? How do you create a conceptual, logical and physical design? How do you need to calculate how many CPU, RAM or storage you need? What are the new features in vSphere 6 which might be important to my design? What basic design documentation do you need to create and how do you create it?

Across both versions of Hersey’s book the design principles have remained the same but there is no denying that vSphere 6 has a lot of differences which set it apart from vSphere 5.x. As such Hersey’s design recipes which have been modified to reflect a vSphere 6 virtual datacenter design where needed, should be a welcome read for everyone.

The structure of the book:

This book contains one chapter more than its predecessor and caps now at 12 chapters. It goes without saying that datacenter security is becoming more and more important and as such security has been assigned its own chapter. Personally I think this is a very welcome addition.

Here are some of the highlights for me:

I really have tried to find my personal highlights in this book but the thing is, in a design all of items touched in the chapters of this book are equally important. To single out some chapters as I have done in some other reviews would not only do dishonor to this book but also to the design and architecture principles themselves.

So let me tell you why I think this book is great:

– A lot of aspiring architects have a tendency to look at architecture from a technical perspective first but a change in architecture should be driven by a business need. Hersey addresses this really well in the discovery process in chapter 2. In short: A discovery process is a mix of finding out what the business needs and discovering the design factors based on requirements, constraints, assumptions and risks.

– This book reads like someone is giving you an excellent classroom experience using only a book as a medium. Just like its predecessor, the second edition of Hersey’s book “VMware vSphere 6.x Datacenter Design Cookbook” has a very good and clear structure. Each chapter builds upon the previous chapters, and where needed examples are given.

– To me and many of my friends, acquaintances and peers who have joined me on the road to VCAP5-DCD, Hersey’s previous book was a must read while preparing for exam-day. We had a good reason to read the “VMware vSphere 5.x Datacenter Design Cookbook”: It explained in an easy to understand fashion many of the topics required to know to pass the VCAP5-DCD exam and the exercises in the book were easy to follow and understand as well. Personally I would advice anyone to add this book to the collection of books to read prior to taking the VCAP6-DCV Design exam.

Why this book stands out from the crowd:

As an instructor with the VMware IT Academy program at the Tidewater Community College Hersey Cartwright knows how important a good course structure is and how critical that structure is to make sure the message will come over loud and clear. This book is a very good example of good structure. The theory, the design principles and best practices in this book are explained in such a fashion that they are easy to follow.

If you are new to design and architecture, finding the right literature to get started might be daunting. Basic principles about good design and architecture should be easily understandable for people new to these topics. Hersey’s book is a real success in this.

About the Author
"Robert V. Kail" is Professor of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University. His undergraduate degree is from Ohio Wesleyan University and he received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Kail has served as Associate Editor of the journal "Child Development" and is currently Editor of the "Journal of Experimental Child Psychology." He received the McCandless Young Scientist Award from the American Psychological Association and was named a fellow in the American Psychological Society. He was also named the Distinguished Sesquicentennial Alumnus in Psychology by Ohio Wesleyan University. His research interests are in the area of cognitive development and focus on the causes and consequences of developmental change in the speed of information processing. Kail has also written "The Development of Memory in Children," and, with John C. Cavanaugh, "Human Development." Away from the office, he enjoys flying his Cessna 172, playing soccer with his daughter, and working out.

Sheet Music collection NOT a Method Book

I ordered this book and while it's a great collection of songs (250 for just $10) it is not a method book. There is a picture of the concertina and 2 pages of exercises and that's it, the rest is sheet music. Buy this for the sheet music but also buy a method/beginners book too.

Alas, there is no "method" given

Mr. Kail doesn't provide a "method" for playing the concertina. For example, when does one play the key of C with their left hand or their right? Some notes are a difficult reach for the ring and pinky fingers. What is the best way to reach these notes? Finger substitutions are used in playing the piano and organ. Similarly, I was hoping for more useful fingering method for the concertina.
